NINETYNINE's latest album, Wasteland, is a rollercoaster ride through the depths of the music industry that leaves you wanting more – but not necessarily in a good way. This quirky trio manages to blend elements of punk, electronic, and psychedelic rock into a chaotic mishmash that sometimes hits the mark, but often veers off into a directionless wasteland. The opening track, "Lost in the City," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its frenetic energy and distorted guitars. It's a promising start, but unfortunately, things quickly go downhill from there. Tracks like "Riot in the Streets" and "Chaos Reigns" feel like caricatures of themselves, with lyrics that border on parody and instrumentation that lacks any real depth or complexity. That being said, there are a few bright spots on Wasteland. "Dreamscape" is a psychedelic masterpiece that showcases the band's ability to create lush, atmospheric soundscapes. And "Rebel Yell" is a catchy, anthemic track that will have you tapping your foot along to the beat. Overall, Wasteland is a mixed bag that may appeal to die-hard fans of experimental music, but is unlikely to win over any new listeners. NINETYNINE shows flashes of brilliance, but ultimately gets lost in the chaos of their own making.
