RADARE's latest album, Der Endless Dream, seems to be stuck in a perpetual state of snooze fest. With tracks that drag on longer than a Monday morning meeting, this German post-rock outfit's attempt at creating a dreamy atmosphere falls flat on its face. From the opening track "Lucid Nightmares" to the closing notes of "Endless Reverie," RADARE fails to capture the listener's attention for more than a fleeting moment. It's as if they took the term "dreamy" a bit too literally and decided to lull us to sleep with their monotonous instrumentation and lacklustre vocals. The album's production value is crystal clear, but unfortunately, it only serves to highlight the mediocrity of the songwriting. It's like watching a beautifully shot film with a plot so dull, you'd rather watch paint dry. Perhaps RADARE's intention was to create a meditative experience for their listeners, but instead, Der Endless Dream feels more like a test of endurance. It's a shame, really, as the band's previous works have shown promise and potential. Hopefully, this is just a minor hiccup in their discography, and they'll come back stronger on their next release. Overall, Der Endless Dream leaves much to be desired. It's like chasing after a mirage of musical brilliance, only to be left parched and disappointed in the end. A dream? More like a nightmare.
