In the world of music, there are some bands that epitomize coolness, and then there's Reverend Rusty & The Case, who seem to have missed the memo entirely with their latest album, "Rough Times." From the first discordant chords of the opening track, "Bumpy Road Blues," it's clear that this band is not afraid to take risks - even if those risks lead them straight into a musical pothole. The vocals are reminiscent of a cat screeching in the night, and the guitar solos sound like they were played by someone who just picked up the instrument yesterday. But somehow, against all odds, Reverend Rusty & The Case manage to make it work. There's a strange charm to their off-kilter sound, a raw energy that can't be denied. "Dusty Footprints" is a surprisingly catchy tune, with a chorus that will have you tapping your foot despite yourself. And "Wobbly Wheels" somehow manages to turn the band's shambolic mess of a sound into something almost danceable. Of course, "Rough Times" is not for everyone. If you like your music polished and predictable, you'll probably want to give this one a miss. But if you're willing to embrace the chaos, there's a strange beauty to be found in Reverend Rusty & The Case's rough around the edges sound. So grab a pint, settle in, and let yourself be carried away by the bumpy road that is "Rough Times."
